As 2012 comes to an end (yes, we made it past December 21st after all that – hoorah!), we here at DAM Productions are looking at the coming year as a Brand New Start. It’s easy to say that at the close of every year, but 2012 was a very different year for us and it’s legacy has been to change the way we work, to look at new avenues for our business in order to progress and grow. And that is EXCITING!
With the economy the way it has been, I think everybody was primed to expect the past 12 months to be a little ‘harder going’ than previous and yes, we have certainly had our fair share of challenges, with several projects not coming to fruition. The simple fact is that even large businesses don’t have the same kind of budgets available to them as previous years and as a result, some clients have started looking for other ways of marketing – often even in-house. Initially, with a reduced level of our corporate/training/promotional video business, this was quite a daunting change for a small business like ours to cope with.
HOWEVER..! As the year draws to a close, and we look back at what we have achieved this past 12months, it’s easy to see the benefits that are coming out of this; it has encouraged us and given us the time to focus on larger creative projects that we wouldn’t ordinarily be able to fit in. Like ‘The Watchmaker’s Apprentice’; Katherine Crowe’s Abbey Road Session; our MannIN Shorts Film Training Scheme; Christy’s album; a documentary style project about Art & Culture on the Isle of Man (release date tbc); Truman Falls‘ second, glorious album (recordings all finished, just needs mixing now); Dave mixing the sound for Danny Lacey‘s short films “Host” and “That Day”; hosting the first MannIN Shorts Isle of Man Film Festival etc.
It looks like 2013 will be the year for us to continue that focus on documentary and film projects of a similar nature. ‘Watchmaker’ has a very exciting new Exec Producer on board and should be finished and ready to distribute to festivals by the Spring; we’re looking to create a programme and/or DVD around Katherine’s extra-ordinary ‘Smile’ campaign; Dave has a feature film he’s going to get into pre-production; Christy has another short film she’ll be DPing with her core crew from ‘I Do'; and we both hope to wangle our way on to working with Danny Lacey on his upcoming Musical… (*nudge nudge wink wink*)
And 2013 will most DEFINITELY be the year to spend a lot more time on long & energising adventures with Milo The Media Hound. So in our book, that’s all gravy
Wishing you and yours all the very best for the next 12months. Considering some folk worried we wouldn’t even be here post-2012, we should think of it as a gift and treat it accordingly. Right?
